Monaco and Monte Carlo History

Monaco is the second smallest principality in Europe, as well as the second smallest country in the world, only Vatican City situated in the centre of Rome, is smaller. The state consists of only one municipality and is ruled by the Royal Family under a constitutional monarchy arrangement. The current Head of state is Prince Albert II who succeeded Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, 1949 to 2005. Prince Rainer was famously married to Princess Grace also known as Grace Kelly.
